I started with ponies long before I was born. Mom had horses after she had gotten out of school. We moved to the farm in 1963 With Major(Moms Horse) and Silverbell a dapple gray Shetland. Soon came Spotty. I got Dusty a gray Quarter Pony in the mid 60s. Then For my 10th birthday in 1970 got Blue Commander a Black with a blaze and 4 socks Quarter Pony. He was pretty cool. So for Christmas my sister got BBs Eagle Dancer, a 53 3/4 POA Gelding. For a few years in Ohio POA and QP showed together. For 1973 they were to go there own way. So we went to the Ohio POA Sale in Bowling Green and came home with MPs Big Creeks Prince, a bay 1966 gelding by Tomahawks Big Creek. He was a good all around been there done that. We showed in the Ohio POA shows in the mid 70s including the 74 International in Sedalia, Mo and 76 in Northbrook, Ill. Im 77 I got Staracres Streaker, a black snowflake mare. She was close on her ROM-H but didnt get enough championships. We had 90 days put on her and I taught her to be an all around pony for the next few years. As I was aging out of POA, I needed a place to go since there was not anything besides halter for adults to do then. Paints were the up and coming breed, so I got The Red Dutchess a dun tobiano APHA mare. I showed her in 4-H my last year of youth as well as one paint show. I didnt like the atmosphere after being raised in POAs. In 1979, I graduated from high school and then attended North Central Technical Institue for one year. I read in a magazine about a horse management school in Wilmot, visited and then attended for the 80-81 school year. This was my first adventure from home and quite the experience that set me up for many more experiences working on horse farms. Sogonosh Stables in Harbor Springs, Michigan, I took out trail rides and took care of the trail horses. RD went with me and we rode and rode and rode. When it got cold, I came home. I didnt find another job until Sept at Tranquility Farm in Gilmer, Texas. It is near Longview. They had many Arabians for me to take care of. They sent me back home at Christmas time. In the spring of 1983 I got in at White City Farm Arabians in New London, OH. Of course fall came and got laid off when the training horses went home. The next spring I went to Manassas, VA to work on a TB training farm. In the middle of that summer, got a call to come back to White City in New London. So homebound I went for a year. Determining that five jobs in five years and about five states it was time to settle to a "REAL" job at RR Donnelley where I have been a material handler for twenty some years now. With all of my experiences on differant farms and situations, it set me up to create my own POA breeding and showing operation. I purchased My Girl Halley at the 1991 POA sale in Delaware. She was an untrained five year old. Trained her and showed her myself. I had her bred to Docs Tough Cookie, ROM-H, PP, Premier Sire, HOF member who lived just 15 minutes away. The first foal, Cookies Comet was born in 1993. He went on to get his ROM-H, earn several high point awards and begin my journey up the POA show and breeding map.
